This week our goal was to inspire the use of MakerEd through an infographic. I was thrilled to use these tools to create an infographic, as I find them to be both visually pleasing and a much more fun way to show data and information. I also got a few ideas on how I could use this with my students! As I sat down to start thinking about the information I wanted to convey, I became quickly overwhelmed. How was I going to convey everything I had learned in the last 6 weeks in an infographic? I decided the best way to approach this problem was to treat it like planning a lesson. I started with what I knew and would then flush out the "big ideas". I first went back through my blog and our class resources to scan for what I thought were key ideas. As I was going back through, I really began thinking about what I would have wanted to know the first week. I remember being overwhelmed by the idea of Making, as it was something I felt that I had never done before. I thought the best place to start was to explain what the Maker Movement is and the importance of the Maker Movement in education. Then I thought that it would be helpful to find ideas of how to integrate it into your classroom, as this was something I also struggled with at first. Putting these pieces together I created my infographic. While it does not have every little thing that I have learned (it would have been HUGE), it does convey exactly what I would want to know as a teacher being introduced to the Maker Movement. |
