This week I got to try a new online tool- Popplet! I had never seen, nor heard, of Popplet before this week, but after using it I plan on finding a way to integrate it into my classroom. It was a very easy (and quite fun) way to map out my own ideas on my Professional Learning Network (PLN), and I am sure that my students would have a blast using it.
Below is the mind map that I created of my PLN.
Below is the mind map that I created of my PLN.
As I created my mind map, the first thing I thought about was my colleagues. I find myself first going to my coworkers, principal, or other staff member in my building to ask questions or find out new information. They are a great sounding board when I want to try something new and they are always willing to help me think through lessons to make them as effective as possible. I find that I also rely heavily on professional development, either through the district or that I seek out on my own. Our district has a wonderful Induction Program that runs through the first three years in the district. The teachers that I work with during induction are great resources for new information and ideas. Finally, I don't know what I would do without the good old internet! Sites like Pinterest allow me to find new ideas, and while they may not all be fit for my classroom, they provide me with a great starting point. Google is a great way for me to search out new information, however it may take time for me to find the best information! YouTube is also helpful, especially for content related material. Having this network of people and resources is not only great for my teaching, but for my own growth as an educator.
