I am back at it and so excited for this semester! This week in CEP 810 we focused on learning and understanding. Our first assignment was to read “How people learn: Brain, Mind, Experience and School” by Bransford, J., Brown, A.L. & Cocking, R. R. (Eds.). To say this reading had me engaged was an understatement! Throughout the reading I could not help but to focus in on two central themes; the differences between experts and novices along with strategies that facilitate learning and understanding. I feel that these two themes go hand in hand when thinking about a classroom. As a teacher it is my goal to help move a student from novice to expert. The only way this can happen though is using a variety of strategies that allow students to not only learn but to understand the information in a way that they can apply it to their own lives.
I also took some time to reflect on my own journey from novice teacher toward becoming an expert teacher. I have come a long way, but I still have a great deal to learn!
